Irrigation Engineer

NEOM Water is looking to recruit an Irrigation Engineer to help define and implement a recycled water strategy for NEOM.  Working closely with our Water Distribution Networks and Wastewater Recycling teams, the Irrigation Networks Design Engineer should have specialized experience in irrigation engineering, in particular the design and construction of recycled water irrigation networks, and the control and automation of the same.



Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities


  • Act as the technical authority on irrigation/recycled water networks and help develop NEOM Water’s Guidance Document on the Provision of Water for Irrigation, standards and specifications for recycled water/irrigation networks.
  • Be the central point of contact between NEOM Water and other NEOM Departments/third parties (including design consultants) for technical issue related to recycled water/irrigation networks.
  • Responsible, in conjunction with water network engineers, to review designs and calculations for all irrigation and recycled water systems.
  • A key touchpoint will be NEOM Environmental teams.
  • Identify operational problems by observing and studying system functioning and performance results; investigating complaints and suggestions; interviewing process supervisors and operators; completing troubleshooting procedures.
  • Carry out remote analysis support, diagnosis and recommendations of onsite system/network performance issues.
  • Preparation of reports and guidance notes.
  • Provide site-based support on installation and commissioning of systems when required. Carry out site-based troubleshooting, diagnosis and recommendations of system performance issues when required.
  • Plans, designs, and oversees construction of irrigation projects for transporting and distributing water to agricultural lands.
  • Plans and designs irrigation fixtures & installation of fixtures to requirements specifications.
  • Directs, through subordinate supervisors, construction of such irrigation systems according to type of soil, climatic characteristics, water supply, return flow and other factors affecting irrigation requirements.
  • Conducts research on problems of soil drainage and conservation, applying knowledge of civil engineering.
  • Understands, quantifies and advises on the relationship between irrigation and ground water level.
  • Advises on appropriate methods for preventing ground water level rise.
  • Experience of water pressure management systems would be an advantage.
  • Methodical and accurate.
  • Great problem solver and able to carry out diagnostic investigations.
  • Quick to identify key issues and priorities and make practical and balanced decisions.
  • Solid working knowledge of current IT and communication technologies.



Education & Experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a further relevant qualification in Irrigation Engineering with comprehensive knowledge of water networks design and operation.
  • Other Engineering degree, with specialism in water distribution networks and firewater networks might also be considered.
  • Sound knowledge and in depth understanding of irrigation / recycled water networks including their design, operation and maintenance including flowmeters, control valves and pumps.
  • Excellent knowledge, understanding and experience in hydraulic design of recycled water / irrigation networks.
  • Experience in determining groundwater level changes from irrigation and design of solutions to prevent groundwater level rise.
  • Experience in design and operation of fully automated, smart irrigation networks.
  • Experience with integration of fire-water systems and recycled water networks.
  • Sound knowledge and in depth understanding of UK, US and KSA legislation, standards and guidelines in respect of irrigation engineering.
