Senior Power System Engineer - Real Time Simulation

NEOM Energy is seeking to recruit an experienced modeling and simulation engineer. The candidate must have at least an MSc or PhD degree in power electronics. The preferred candidate must have detailed understandings of control, modelling and simulation of modern MVDC and HVDC converters and distribution & transmission systems; grid integration of renewable power generations; and real-time validation of control and protection systems.



Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities


  • Contribute to the design and implementation of NEOM’s energy system infrastructures, guided by simple principle of the best overall performance at the lowest costs.
  • Work closely with team of engineers at NEOM and industry, particularly, to review studies and assesses technical options presented to NEOM.
  • To be part of in-house expertise in modeling, control and simulations, which will be responsible for initiation and development of bespoke solutions for challenges that may emerge during system implementation.
  • Contribute coverall vision of modular micro-grids from the point of views of network topology, control, operation and protection, and implementation of power electronic interfacing for distributed energy storage systems.
  • Support development of NEOM Grid Code in collaboration with local and international organizations, in which rigorous modelling and simulations will be used to quantitatively validation some of the unique code. 



Education & Experience


  • MSc with minimum of 6 years of experience or PhD with minimum of 2 years of experience in electrical engineering field
  • Control, design, modelling and simulations of HVDC and MVDC converters.
  • Modelling, control, simulation and protection of HVDC transmission systems, including multi-terminal HVDC systems.
  • Micro-grids design, control, protection and operation.
  • Centralized and distributed energy storage systems for provision of backup and ancillary services for power grids.
  • Grid integration of renewable power generations.
