Principal Engineer - System Technology Substations

ENOWA is looking for candidates with experience, at a strategic and functional level, in state-of-the-art gas-insulated substation technology including SF6 free insulation gases, nonconventional instrument transformers, IEC 68150 and protection and control of substations. Experience in undergrounding of T&D assets will be a plus.

The role will overlook and guide ENOWA’s specification work for gas-insulated substations based on structured analysis of industry, supplier and academic trends. Interpersonal and communication skills, a focus on efficiency, and enhanced multitasking abilities are required 




Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities



  • Contribute to the design and implementation of ENOWA’s power grid infrastructure strategic objectives and goals by implementing near, medium, and long term solutions at the lowest costs, with a focus on gas-insulated substations.
  • Guide and orchestrate the design and engineering works needed to define ENOWA’s own specifications around gas-insulated substations, including first definition of Operations and Maintenance concept insofar needed for the definition of system technology (e.g. interlocking scheme).
  • Analyse permanently industry trends and technology experiences through direct interaction, industry events and membership in relevant industry organisations.
  • Work with all stakeholders internally and externally to understand current market trends, performance of technologies chosen by SEC so far and first experiences from ENOWA’s early project implementations.
  • Help develop and implement standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure a comprehensive delivery of expert services, systems, and outcomes
  • Lead developing standard GIS specifications, layouts and standards
  • Ability to manage external expert and technical consultants for the delivery of engineering solutions and designs




Education & Experience



  • Bachelor’s or Master’s or PhD degree in electrical engineering or similar
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience
  • A minimum of 12 years for bachelor, 10 years for master’s and 7 years for PhD degrees of relevant experience. Minimum 6 years at a transmission level
  • Experience, at a strategic and functional level, in substation works
  • Knowledge of design and construction of AC GIS substations
  • Clear reporting and presentation skill
