Manager - Geothermal Energy

Summary
ENOWA is looking for a Manager - Geothermal Energy with an extensive background in utility-scale geothermal power generation and energy to -
- Manage ENOWA's technical and commercial activities to develop, tender, finance, construct and operate geothermal technologies
- Manage a small team and interface with other energy and NEOM teams to deliver ENOWA’s 100% renewables-based energy system
- Manage the interfaces with external authorities and other internal and external stakeholders to secure information flow, support, approvals and permits
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Perform technical and commercial analyses and works to develop, design, tender, finance, construct and operate geothermal energy projects with the support of consultants and investors
- Contract and manage consultants and secure third-party investors ensuring best professional practices for NEOM’s geothermal projects
- Develop, and implement guidelines and best practices to ensure successful delivery of pre-development and tendering packages for geothermal projects
- Structure geothermal energy projects to achieve maximum third-party investment and lowest cost of electricity
- Technically and commercially evaluate and implement new geothermal projects
- Evaluate and utilize new geothermal technologies (together with storage/flexibility) to enhance overall system reliability, efficiency and ensure integration of new technologies in NEOM’s energy system
- Actively support overall renewable generation development and interdependencies with other areas within the Energy sector from a generation perspective
- Organize and lead the geothermal team and monitor its performance to deliver the objectives of the department
- Develop a vision and plan for geothermal energy; motivate, coach, and steer the team towards delivery of the planned objectives
- Perform and support the cooperation, alignment and negotiations with governmental authorities and other external stakeholders
- Actively contribute to executive management discussions and decisions, including preparation of bespoke analyses, documentation, and presentations
Education & Experience
- Master Level Education (Engineering, Geoscience, Business or similar)
- 12+ years’ experience in the development, tendering, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of utility-scale geothermal power plants
- Strong business / commercial acumen as well as technical skills and experience in geothermal energy technologies
- Technical understanding of geological and geophysical datasets used in geothermal resource assessment and exploration
- Experience in structuring or bidding for Independent Power Producer (IPP) and/or other project-financed power / energy projects
- Hands-on experience in the project management of geothermal projects with international partners, stakeholders, and contractors.
- Solid experience with software for the development and design of geothermal energy systems (reservoir modeling and simulation software e.g., Leapfrog, TOUGH or similar)
- Good understanding of renewable energy, emerging cleantech and flexible energy systems and markets
- Experience with subsurface and surface risk identification, assessment, and management
- Superior interpersonal, team and communication skill as well as a focus on efficiency and effectiveness combined with a hands-on, can-do mentality
- Proven track record of successfully leading and managing teams with strong ability to prioritize tasks in a highly dynamic environment
- Ability to build effective working relations with multiple stakeholders, across departments, with differing interests both inside and outside the NEOM organization
- Strong organization, prioritization, and time management skills to monitor and handle multiple projects at the same, balance key priorities and meet challenging and changing deadlines
- Delivery mindset (on time, on budget, in quality); high thoroughness and reliability; ability to deliver quality output
- High resilience, proactive problem-solving skills, and strong negotiation skills
- Ability to communicate well both written and verbally with top management and external audiences
- Middle East working experience is a plus
